Figma’s New AI Editing Alpha:Prompt to Edit Your Designs
Figma has introduced a new alpha feature that allows you to select layers in a Figma file and make edits using written prompts.
Instead of manually tweaking frames, you can now describe what you want and let Figma’s AI handle the heavy lifting.
What Can It Do?
This early release unlocks a range of powerful use cases:
- Bulk Editing – Redesign multiple frames or layers at once
- Adding Content – Insert or replace images and text with a single prompt
- Resizing – Instantly generate a mobile or tablet version of your design
- Creating Variations – Build light mode and dark mode themes on the fly
- New UI Generation – Prompt Figma to create a fresh card component or layout from scratch
By turning natural language into actionable edits, designers can prototype faster, iterate more freely, and reduce repetitive manual work.
How It Works
The workflow is simple:
- Select Layers – Highlight one or more frames, components, or elements.
- Enter a Prompt – For example:
- “Make this button primary with a blue gradient”
- “Generate a dark mode version of this screen”
- “Resize this layout for iPhone 15 Pro”
- Review & Refine – AI suggestions appear directly in the canvas. You can accept, tweak, or undo at any time.
Under the hood, Figma’s AI leverages a custom language model fine-tuned for design tasks, ensuring that prompts translate into pixel-perfect edits.
